This book was produced as one of the deliverables from recent collaborative research project known as the EAPN Project. Chapters have been contributed by several academic and industrial members of the research team and include both known and new case study examples of PPP projects from Asia and Europe.

Structured in two parts, the first part concentrates on the concept, constitution and understanding of a PPP project and the second part consists of five chapters each of which includes a major case study. The first part is a concise review of the basic theory which is relatively well known, although the subsection 1.11 on project finance is an excellent short summary of what, in practice, can be quite difficult to understand.

Practical case studies are contained in chapters 2 to 6 outlining key aspects of the 2nd Stage Cipularang Tollway, Indonesia; Yen Lenh Bridge, Vietnam; River Tunnel Warnowquerung Rostock, Germany; Laibin B Power Station, China and the Olympic Games Stadium, China respectively. The amount of information already in the public domain on these projects varies considerably with Rostock crossing and the Beijing Olympic stadium probably the best known. However each of these chapters has been prepared by a team of authors with specific interest and knowledge of these projects and consequently the text contains many valuable insights for practitioners considering embarking on projects in these counties. The authors have also listed additional reference material offering a wealth of more detailed theory and practice.

This is not a text that is read from cover to cover in an orderly fashion but rather to select specific areas of interest. This text makes a useful contribution to the existing PPP literature and all researchers and many current project participants will benefit from reading this book.
