Technician and undergraduate students alike will welcome the 3rd Edition of this well received text book relevantly reflected in its title and which principally provides a practical guide to construction planning from inception and design through construction to commissioning and handover. It is marketed by Amazon construction books as a trio with Modern Construction Management and Construction Contracts: Law and Management,

Explained in the text are the project management stages encountered from pre-contract tendering to post-contract procedures. For the student reader, much of the book rightly concentrates on detailed planning techniques and processes which are treated in depth featuring scheduling, programming and preparation of construction method statements. This is further consolidated with a case studies section plus a new example introduced dealing with vertical access planning and materials handling.

Valuable chapters are also available on information management and the various forms of procurement contrasting alternatives from traditional contracts to the preferred options recommended in the Construction Best Practice programme

Other related aspects such as project control of time, money and resources management are also well examined, including the principles and application of cash flow.

Bringing the book once again favourably up to date, risk and hazard management, management of the supply chain, waste and H&S management have been introduced. The changes in the more commonly used construction contracts such as the JCT family and NEC 3rd Edition are also highlighted.

With its appealing practical delivery of appropriate topics and specific subject content this new edition should continue to be attractive to students and graduates primarily interested in the contracting sector, .
